Method 1: Download from the Microsoft Store (Recommended)
Steps:
- Open the Microsoft Store on your Windows PC.
- In the search bar, type Voice Recorder.
- Select the official app listing named Voice Recorder (or “Voice Recorder” by Microsoft, if shown).
- Click Get or Install.
- After installation, open the app and grant microphone permissions when prompted.
Method 2: Install the built-in Windows Voice Recorder (If available)
Some Windows versions already include a voice recording app. If you don’t see a Store listing, you can try searching for Voice Recorder from the Start menu and opening it directly. If it’s installed but outdated, open Microsoft Store and check for updates.
Microphone permission checklist
If recording fails after download, check these settings:
- Go to Settings - Privacy & security - Microphone.
- Turn on Microphone access.
- Ensure Let apps access your microphone is enabled.
- Find the Voice Recorder app in the list and enable its permission.
Common issues and fixes
“Get/Install” button is missing
Try signing in to Microsoft Store with your Microsoft account, then refresh the Store page. Also check if your device is managed by an organization (work/school), which can restrict app installs.
App installs but won’t record
Restart the app, verify the correct input device is selected in Windows sound settings, and confirm microphone permissions as described above.
Quick start
Once installed: click Record, speak a few seconds, click Stop, and verify the saved recording appears in the app’s library or recordings list.
